Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord's Supper
The Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus faithfully commemorated Holy Thursday through the solemn celebration of the Mass of the Lord’s Supper, marking the beginning of the Sacred Paschal Triduum. This meaningful liturgy reflected the profound love, humility, and self-giving of Jesus Christ as He prepared for His Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
One of the most significant moments of the celebration was the Washing of the Feet of the Twelve Apostles, symbolizing Christ’s humility and His call for all believers to serve one another with love and compassion. Twelve faithful individuals were chosen to take part in this sacred rite, representing the apostles and reminding the community of the importance of servant leadership and Christian discipleship.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Rev. Fr. Stephen Gonzales, Priest Moderator of the Sanctuary, together with Rev. Fr. Dale Orda, Head Confessor, who concelebrated the Mass. Numerous pilgrims and devotees gathered at the Sanctuary to participate in this solemn occasion, united in prayer and reflection as they entered into the mystery of the Lord’s Passion.
At the same time, the Sacrament of Confession was administered by Rev. Fr. Pericles Fajardo along with priests from the Archdiocese of Capiz, giving the faithful the opportunity for spiritual renewal and reconciliation during this sacred season.
Following the Mass, the Vigil before the Blessed Sacrament was led by the various ministries serving in the Sanctuary. The solemnity of the evening was deepened by the prayerful hymns rendered by the Sanctuary Chorale, creating an atmosphere of silence, devotion, and contemplation. The Vigil and confessions continued until 11:00 in the evening, allowing the faithful to remain with the Lord in prayer, just as the disciples were invited to watch and pray with Him in Gethsemane.
Holy Thursday at the Sanctuary became not only a remembrance of the Last Supper, but also a living witness of faith, service, and communion, drawing every pilgrim closer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
