Simbang Gabi 2025: A Nine-Day Journey of Faith and Hope Toward Christmas

The sacred tradition of Simbang Gabi officially began with the first Mass held at the Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, opening nine meaningful days of prayerful preparation for Christmas. The celebration was led by Rev. Fr. Jay Philip Lagunay, who encouraged the faithful to embrace the season with renewed hearts, sincere repentance, and steadfast hope. Despite the early hour, many parishioners came together in devotion, offering their prayers and intentions as one community. This first gathering set the tone for a journey not only of tradition, but of spiritual renewal and unity, guiding everyone toward a deeper encounter with Christ as the joy of Christmas draws near.
The second night of Simbang Gabi continued with the same spirit of devotion and joyful anticipation as the faithful gathered once more to celebrate the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Dale Orda. His message invited everyone to reflect on generosity and selfless giving as concrete ways of preparing for the coming of Christ. A special moment of the evening was the gradual decorating of the Christmas Tree, where parishioners offered ornaments as symbols of their prayers, hopes, and personal sacrifices. What began as a simple tradition became a meaningful act of solidarity, as the proceeds from this activity will help support the ongoing construction and improvement of the church.

As the Simbang Gabi journey reached its third night, the atmosphere of prayer and reflection deepened among the faithful who gathered once again for the Eucharistic celebration, presided over by Rev. Fr. Jay Philip Lagunay together with Rev. Fr. Danielle Xenon Ngujo, MMSJ. In his homily, Fr. Philip spoke about seeing one another not through titles, achievements, or social standing, but through the eyes of Christ, whose love accepts and restores even our weaknesses and imperfections. Inspired by this message, parishioners continued the tradition of offering ornaments and written intentions on the Christmas Tree, entrusting their personal prayers to God as visible signs of faith, hope, and trust in His mercy.
The fourth night of Simbang Gabi further strengthened the community’s spirit of prayer as the faithful gathered once more to celebrate the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Dale Orda with Rev. Fr. Jay Philip Lagunay joining the celebration. Building on the reflections of the previous days, the liturgy invited everyone to deepen their relationship with God through humility, forgiveness, and sincere conversion of heart. Many came carrying both gratitude and silent struggles, finding comfort in the shared moments of worship and reflection. As the days moved closer to Christmas, the growing participation of the faithful became a clear sign of a community walking together in faith, hope, and renewed commitment to live according to the teachings of Christ.

The sixth night of Simbang Gabi was marked by a quiet solemnity as the community gathered once more for the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Dale Orda. In his homily, he reflected on the deeper purpose behind every new morning, reminding the faithful that life itself finds its meaning in God, our constant and faithful Father. He invited everyone to pause and examine the true center of their daily struggles and efforts, encouraging them to ask not only what motivates them to rise each day, but whom they are living for. His message stirred hearts to renew their trust in God, who remains present even in moments of weakness, doubt, and uncertainty.
By the fifth night of Simbang Gabi, the spirit of expectation had grown even stronger as the faithful gathered in joyful anticipation for the Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Pericles Fajardo, Supreme Moderator of the Merciful Missionaries of St. Joseph. In his reflection, he invited everyone to rediscover the Word of God as the light that gives direction to human life, especially in moments of confusion and uncertainty. He spoke of how many are easily drawn to temporary attractions that promise happiness but often leave emptiness behind. Instead, he encouraged the community to remain attentive to God’s voice, allowing Scripture to shape their choices and lead them closer to Christ, the true source of lasting peace, hope, and love.

On the seventh night of Simbang Gabi, the faithful gathered once again for the celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Pericles Fajardo. In his reflection, he encouraged everyone to look beyond the festive decorations and customs of the season, and instead recognize the deeper symbols of Christmas that point to love, unity, and the bonds we share with family, friends, and community. He reminded the congregation that the true spirit of Advent is not just in preparing for the feast, but in cultivating meaningful relationships and living out Christ’s message of compassion, generosity, and mutual care in daily life.
The eighth night of Simbang Gabi brought the faithful together once again for a serene and reflective celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Dale Orda. As the community’s anticipation for Christmas grew, the liturgy encouraged everyone to pause amidst the busyness of the season and focus on the deeper meaning of Advent. It was a night to renew personal intentions, strengthen one’s faith, and prepare the heart to welcome Christ with sincerity and devotion. The gathering served as a gentle reminder that the final steps toward Christmas are not only measured in days but in acts of prayer, love, and living out God’s presence in our daily lives.

The ninth and final night of Simbang Gabi brought a sense of completion and joyful anticipation as the faithful gathered once more for the Holy Mass, presided over by Rev. Fr. Pericles Fajardo together with Rev. Danielle Xenon Ngujo, MMSJ. This last step of the nine-day novena highlighted the beauty of perseverance, showing how each prayer, sacrifice, and act of devotion over the past nights had become a meaningful offering of faith. In his homily, Fr. Prex reminded everyone that steadfast love and faithful actions, even through challenges, guide us closer to God and prepare our hearts to welcome the true joy of Christmas. The night concluded with a spirit of fulfillment, gratitude, and renewed hope as the community reflected on the blessings of the journey.
The journey of Simbang Gabi culminated in a radiant celebration on Christmas Day, filling hearts with joy, peace, and profound gratitude for the gift of Christ’s birth. The Holy Mass was a festive and solemn moment, uniting the faithful in songs of praise, prayers of thanksgiving, and reflections on God’s immense love for humanity. As families, friends, and the community gathered to rejoice, the spirit of Christmas—hope, generosity, and unity—was alive in every gesture, every smile, and every prayer. This day reminded everyone that the true essence of the season lies not only in celebration, but in carrying the light of Christ into daily life, sharing His love, and living with faith, compassion, and joy throughout the year.
