GRAND SANTACRUZAN & FLORES DE MAYO FESTIVAL 2025
The day began with a solemn and spirit-filled Holy Mass, celebrated at the Sacred Heart Parish Church. The church was filled with the scent of fresh flowers, the sound of sacred hymns, and the quiet prayers of the faithful, creating a sacred atmosphere of thanksgiving and reflection. The liturgy reminded everyone of Mary’s powerful intercession and her role as our spiritual mother and model of discipleship. The message of the homily echoed the themes of faith, purity, and service values deeply embodied in the celebration of Flores de Mayo. It was a sacred beginning that stirred the hearts of many and prepared the faithful for the joyful procession that followed.
On May 24, 2025, the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish – Pueblo de Panay once again came alive with colors, devotion, and grace as we celebrated the Grand Santacruzan and Flores de Mayo Festival, a beloved tradition honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary and showcasing the richness of Filipino Catholic culture. This annual celebration is more than just a procession; it is a living expression of our faith and our people's deep love for the Blessed Mother. With hearts full of joy and reverence, parishioners young and old gathered to pay tribute to Mary, our Queen and Mother, through prayer, pageantry, and procession. It was a moment of shared pride and devotion that brought the entire community together in one spirit and one faith.
After the Eucharistic celebration, the streets were filled with joy and admiration as the Santacruzan procession gracefully made its way from the church to Robinsons Place Roxas. The sun shone brightly on the beautifully dressed sagalas, each representing a title or virtue associated with the Blessed Mother or important female figures in salvation history. The community lined the streets, capturing photos, clapping in support, and offering prayers as the procession passed by. Children waved flowers, elders looked on with pride, and families walked alongside in solidarity and joy. The rhythmic beat of drums, the gentle strumming of guitars, and the echo of Marian songs completed the uplifting scene — a true reflection of beauty, culture, and faith in motion.
At the Robinsons activity area, the celebration reached its joyful climax with a sashing and coronation ceremony, honoring this year’s Reyna Elena and the other esteemed sagalas. With family members, friends, and supporters in attendance, the participants were recognized for their grace, poise, and dedication to the tradition. The atmosphere was filled with music, heartfelt applause, and a deep sense of community pride. The coronation served as a beautiful reminder of how the Santacruzan symbolizes the triumph of faith, as reflected in the story of Queen Helena’s discovery of the True Cross.
