New Ministries, One Mission: MMSJ Brothers Instituted in Service

A significant milestone in the journey of religious formation was marked on November 29, 2025, as the Merciful Missionaries of St. Joseph (MMSJ) celebrated the institution of four brothers into the ministries of Lector and Acolyte. The sacred rite took place at the Sancta Maria Mater et Regina Seminarium Chapel, a setting befitting a moment of commitment, prayer, and renewed dedication to the service of God and His people.

Presiding over the rite was The Most Rev. Victor B. Bendico, D.D., Archbishop of Capiz, whose presence underscored the Church’s affirmation of the brothers’ vocational journey. Through the rite of institution, the Church formally entrusted these ministries to the brothers, calling them to deeper responsibility, fidelity, and availability in the proclamation of the Word and service at the altar.

During the celebration, Br. Kelvin Panaligan, MMSJ was instituted into the Ministry of Lector, a role that calls him to proclaim Sacred Scripture and help nurture a deeper love for the Word of God among the faithful. At the same time, Br. Cristan Azañes, MMSJ, Br. Aldwin Danid, MMSJ, and Br. Melton Alburo, MMSJ were instituted into the Ministry of Acolyte, entrusting them with a special responsibility in assisting at the altar and supporting the sacred liturgy with reverence and dedication.

Also present in prayerful support was Rev. Fr. Stephen Gonzales, OSJ, Rector of the MMSJ formation community, whose guidance and encouragement continue to shape the brothers in their ongoing formation. His presence reflected the communal nature of vocation—one that is nurtured not in isolation, but within a community rooted in faith, discipline, and mutual support.

The institution into these ministries marks an important stage in the brothers’ preparation for future service in the Church. More than functional roles, the ministries of Lector and Acolyte are expressions of discipleship—calling those instituted to live lives anchored in prayer, humility, and faithful witness. Through these ministries, the brothers are invited to embody Christ’s servant leadership, both within the liturgy and in their daily interactions with God’s people.

For the MMSJ community, this occasion is a moment of gratitude and hope. It is a reminder that God continues to call and sustain servants who are willing to offer their lives for the mission of the Church. The brothers’ “yes” to these ministries reflects courage, trust in God’s grace, and a sincere desire to serve with integrity and love.

As the brothers move forward in their formation, the community entrusts them to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. May their service as Lector and Acolyte deepen their love for God, strengthen their commitment to the Church, and inspire many to listen attentively to the Word and encounter Christ more fully in the sacred liturgy. May their vocation continue to flourish as a source of light, faith, and hope for the people of God.
